Unleashed onto the Noisey Youtube channel yesterday was the spanking new Spoek Mathambo video, Stuck Together. Watch it after the jump.
Viewers of the channel will recall Noisey carrying the trailer for the latest Die Antwoord video, Fatty Boom Boom, and the video itself exclusively. Both were released over the last two weeks, to widespread outcries from fans of punk, zef, Lady Gaga and prawns alike.
As Sub Pop’s most recent African signing, Spoek Mathambo (or, as Home Affairs knows him, Nthato Mokgata) released his second album Father Creeper earlier this year on the label, heralded by the single Let Them Talk this March.
Stuck Together opens with some bleak-souled travelers’ ramblings, real old world Delta weariness that, if you listen closely, will creep under your skin and stay with you for some time after the song ends. Compared to the township tech dancefloor fillers that most listeners associate with Spoek Mathambo, Stuck Together mostly bubbles under for the 3:16 duration, with some pretty sweet shoegaze fuzziness in the chorus from Bateleur’s Nicholas van Reenen.
The video was created by French visualists Elias Belkeddar and Ugo Mangin, who previously put together Two Bunnies in Love, 5 minutes of grainy holiday fuck footage featuring a man who is dressed as a bunny and a woman who is not. (NSFW)
The Stuck Together video features some wild-eyed old folks getting romantic, nostalgic and hallucinogenic in a dusty old house. Tell us what you think of it.
