Synergy Live 2012 is back with a killer line-up, and it’s been confirmed by The Man that iconic big beat punks The Prodigy will be headlining.
Oi, Riversands Farm, watch yourself. Saturday, 1 December is going to be a big one.
With 25 million records under their belt and a musical career spanning over 20 years, rest assured that when The Prodigy bring it, they bring it hard and fast.
In the early 1990s, The Prodigy stormed international festivals, walking like giants where mainstream artists feared to tread and where dance artists were previously uninvited.
Hits like Firestarter, Breathe and Smack My Bitch Up made the UK hardcore dance brats an institution in the 1990s, dominating airwaves. Smack My Bitch Up in particular (which MTV would then only play between the hours of 1am and 5am due to its “offensive content”) earned the band a sizable chunk of notoriety.
Their 2009 album Invaders Must Die, charted at number one in the UK and Australia, their highest-charting record to date. Hits like Omen, Warriors Dance and Take Me to the Hospital served to spawn a whole new generation of The Prodigy fans.
The band’s much-anticipated sixth album How To Steal A Jet Fighter is anticipated for release in 2013.
Meanwhile, SA’s own The Narrow headlines the SA contingent on Synergy Live 2012.
The rest of the main stage lineup includes the likes Zebra & Giraffe, Desmond and the Tutus, Lark (Electro), Wrestlerish, Gangs of Ballet, Bittereinder, Man as Machine and Newtown Knife Gang with the Red Bull Studio Live stage featuring Dr Khumalo, Minx, King Rat, Phizist VS Kid Robot, Twelv & Thesis, Tommy Gun, Double Adapter, Reepa and Rudeone.
