This is a bit late in the day, but if you haven’t seen the trailer for the remake of Evil Dead already then fix your peepers on the teaser below.
It’s a little bit gory so be sure to send the kids out for half a dozen button holes before hitting play.

While the term “remake” is usually enough to make me puke in terror regardless of genre, in this instance I’ve decided to keep the jury out and occupied until the film’s scheduled release in April 2013. The reason for this is because the vital personnel from the original Evil Dead series are behind this remake. Director of Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness Sam Raimi is back, this time to share the duties of producer with Rob Tapert (original producer) and Bruce Campbell.
Obviously the remake has a much higher budget than the original, but it’s difficult to tell at this stage if it will aim to replicate the dark humour that made Evil Dead so appealing. Perhaps fearing comparisons to Harrison Ford, Campbell will not be reprising his iconic role as Ash, but hopefully with his creative direction and a script that he is quoted as saying, “kicks ass – you have my word,” I can continue to feel cautiously optimistic.
Fingers crossed that Campbell et al haven’t succumbed to possession via an evil corporate handshake, and that this doesn’t become another screaming teen horror that’ll be in the bargain bucket six months later. But I have faith that His Royal Bruceness has been able to resist the executives’ demanding charms and that the old crew know exactly what they are doing.
