I am in love with Ster Kinekor’s new “luxury” cinema – Cinema Prestige at The Zone in Rosebank.
I went there with a bunch of friends the previous weekend to watch Prometheus and we all walked out saying that this is the only place we will ever go to watch movies ever again.
It’s a large cinema, but they haven’t crammed a million seats into it so it’s very spacious inside. You have oodles of leg room and a nice convenient little table for each seat with a dedicated slot for your drink and more than enough space for all your snacks.
But that’s not the best part. The seats. Oh. My God. The seats are these huge, plush leather-bound Lazy-Boy chairs that have foot rests that pop up and can recline completely flat to give you a “bed” to lie on while you watch your movie. And damn, are they comfy.
This, really, is like watching movies in the first-class cabin. No people behind you kicking your chair, no line-of-sight with the row in front of you (so even if people sit on their Blackberries throughout the movie, the glare from the screens won’t bother you, and the seats are just nicely spaced apart to give you a little bit of personal space.
You get single chairs and double “couches” so whether you’re a couple or a spare wheel, there’s an awesome place to sit. And, to top it all off, the seats have all been positioned to give you the best view of the screen – no matter what row you sit in.
When I first heard about this new luxury cinema back in April, I was sceptical. But, having experienced it for myself I can tell you that I am hooked and will gladly pay the little bit extra to watch movies in this amazing cinema.
You even get snack platters to go with your popcorn and I saw waiters coming to peoples’ seats to drop off drinks and such as well. It really is a fantastic idea and it’s one that I hope will catch on at other cinemas soon because I’m now properly spoilt.
You might be asking if Ster Kinekor paid for this post or if I work for them. Nope. I received nothing for free and they’ve never sent me any form of publicity. This post is all me. Credit where credit is due – it’s an idea that I initially thought would tank, but the experience spoke for itself and I am now an even bigger fan.
Ster Kinekor cinemas have always been my cinema of choice for lots of reasons, but Cinema Prestige has just sealed the deal for me. I’ll never set foot in another cinema if I’m paying.
Nice job, Ster Kinekor. You’ll be getting more of my money in the future.
